The DOAP Manifesto

Modern App Platforms and AI have changed DevOps for good

Apps that once needed an engineering team now ship in minutes. The DevOps work of keeping them running safely hasn’t caught up.

Traditional DevOps doesn’t cover app platforms, and the app platforms don’t fully embrace DevOps (yet).

Then

Three industries. Three kinds of engineer.

The traditional model of application development required specialized engineering teams to manage massive infrastructure hurdles. It required three separate jobs, each with its own specialists:

System DevOpsManaging physical or cloud servers, container orchestration, and global scaling.
App DevOpsLooking after code repositories, continuous integration pipelines and manual deployments.
Database DevOpsScripting complex schema migrations, data cleaning, and cross-system syncing.
Now

One person, one tab, all three.

App platforms such as Airtable, Glide and Notion abstracted the infrastructure away. AI builders like v0, Bolt.new and Lovable went further: with “vibe coding”, anyone can describe a full-stack app in plain text and ship it in minutes.

Servers, automatedThe platform hosts, scales and patches them. Nobody on the team runs infrastructure.
Code, democratizedDescribe the app in plain text and an AI builder writes and ships it, often with no repository, pipeline or review.
Data, in the same tabSchema, records and automations are changed live, in production, by whoever has access.

Speed without stability is a liability.

Platforms and AI builders ship in minutes, often without the guardrails.

That is why we are forming the DevOps for App Platforms (DOAP) Alliance.

  • A benefit corporation

Our mission to fill this gap is written into our charter.

  • Platforms are engineering

Building with AI and app platforms is modern software engineering.

  • No magic prompt

Nothing replaces a secure project structure, a documented change workflow, a stable production pipeline.

Our core tenets. The standard behind everything we teach and certify, on every platform.

  1. 01

    Staged changes over editing live

    The reality

Making live updates to an active database, or letting an AI agent write directly to production code without a safety net, creates massive operational risks.

    The DOAP standard

Separate development from live production data. Implement intentional staging, duplication, and verification processes before changes touch active business users.

  2. 02

Code review and architecture over “vibe coding”

    The reality

Throwing high-level prompts at an AI and blindly accepting whatever it spits out creates unmaintainable, insecure software.

    The DOAP standard

Use AI to work faster, but keep human judgment in the loop. Use context engineering, auditable deployment trails, and rigorous review processes over raw generation speed.

  3. 03

    Proactive monitoring over blind trust

    The reality

Realizing an automation pipeline, a critical database, or an AI-generated API route is broken only after a customer complains is an operational failure.

    The DOAP standard

Create automated systems with automated and human in the loop oversight. Implement centralized error logging, automated unit tests, and real-time alerts across all application platform pipelines.

  4. 04

Upward economic mobility over tech gatekeeping

    The reality

Traditional tech culture often dismisses application platform builders and AI creators as “non-technical”, keeping them locked out of high-paying engineering roles.

    The DOAP standard

Take control of your career and transform from a self-taught creator into a highly sought-after Application Platform Engineer or DevOps Professional capable of commanding enterprise-grade compensation.

Join the Alliance.

The Alliance forms platform by platform, when twenty people register for each. Add your name, and your platform gets one closer.

  1. Sep 2026 · nowFounding members join

Gathering initial interest: your name on the join form, and the first survey open, for every platform.
