System DevOps
Containers · Servers · Databases
The machines the application runs on.
Businesses run on apps built in Airtable, Notion, Supabase, Retool and Lovable. Someone has to keep those apps secure, up to date and running smoothly. The DOAP Alliance connects the people who do that work.

Who is behind this →Systems, applications, databases, security and AI each grew their own DevOps practice. App platforms fold much of that into one product, which is why people use them. The work didn’t go away: someone still has to manage changes, backups, access and the AI agents writing to production — just done in different, yet to be defined ways. That is where the Alliance steps in.

The Alliance brings together the professionals responsible for DevOps on app platforms, their employers, the platform organizations, the agencies implementing and maintaining these platforms, and the partners servicing them.
Practitioners who pay for their own membership.
Once the Alliance forms: working sessions with other members, webinars, a members’ forum, vendor discounts, the annual benchmark and a job board. Pricing will depend on how many platforms you follow, starting at one.
Employers who buy membership for their staff.
Membership seats for your team, a company profile, and benchmark results for your organization.
The company behind a supported platform.
An observer seat on your Platform Steering Committee, early access to your platform’s benchmark results, and a participating-platform badge. Platform companies do not vote, and never see the exam, the survey questions or the member list.
Agencies and consultants.
A listing in the directory, badges for your certified staff, and referrals from member organizations that need help.
Software and service companies that serve these professionals.
Sponsorship, and approved channels for sharing your content with members.
The four tenets are the standard behind everything we teach and certify.
Separate development from live production data. Implement intentional staging, duplication, and verification processes before changes touch active business users.
Use AI to work faster, but keep human judgment in the loop. Use context engineering, auditable deployment trails, and rigorous review processes over raw generation speed.
Create automated systems with automated and human in the loop oversight. Implement centralized error logging, automated unit tests, and real-time alerts across all application platform pipelines.
Take control of your career and transform from a self-taught creator into a highly sought-after Application Platform Engineer or DevOps Professional capable of commanding enterprise-grade compensation.
The nine domains are combined industry best practices, with platform specific knowledge inserted where relevant. This provides a tailored expertise for each approved platform across all domains.
Woven into all domains
Oversight of Privacy and Security is essential in all domains.

The State of DevOps for App Platforms survey asks how you protect, change and document the apps your business runs on. Finish it and you get your DOAP Score straight away. Everyone’s answers together give each platform its own score in the annual report.
Six scored practices, each 0 to 3, expressed out of 100. You get yours the moment you finish; the rubric is published with the report.
Your strength in DevOps practices.
The platform’s overall strength, as told by its users.
Each platform opens in the Alliance once twenty people register for it. Register for yours, and share it so it gets there sooner.
A curriculum across nine domains, platform-neutral at the core and platform-specific where it matters.
A certification for each Alliance platform (DOAP-AT, DOAP-MON and so on), written by that platform’s certification working group.
A place for the person who is “the Airtable person”, or the Notion person, or the Supabase person, and has never met another one.
A credential employers recognize, in a community of people who do the same job, and a clearer path to your next role.
Nothing yet, and nothing is charged before 2027. The join form asks what you would expect to pay, and that sets the tiers. Individuals pay for themselves; organizations pay per seat; platforms, agencies and vendors pay per organization.
No. The survey is for every platform: you say which ones you answer for, and each platform gets its own report. Forty-eight platforms are in scope, and each one moves forward when twenty people register for it and a five-person steering committee is ready to seat.
Nobody who sells to you. It is being formed as a standalone benefit corporation, operated under contract by Openside, with Baseout as a founding partner on published, non-exclusive terms and BuiltOnAir as a community partner. None of them owns it, and the operating contract is disclosed.
A vendor certifies its product. DOAP certifies the practice: nine domains, platform-neutral at the core, written by the practitioners who do the work. No product names in the exam, and nobody who drafts exam content trains on it for pay.
You get your DOAP Score the moment you finish. Your answers go into the State of DOAP report in aggregate; the rubric is published with it, and no answer is shown against a name or a company.
Then that platform stays collecting interest, and you are not charged for it. The Alliance itself launches when three platforms reach twenty; if that never happens, the pledges stay pledges and nobody pays for an institution that did not form.
Yes. There is one inclusion test: you build and operate an application on it, rather than only run code there. Propose it, it goes under review, and it opens the same way as every other one.
After the Alliance forms, which is targeted for Summer 2027. The curriculum and the exam follow the nine domains the survey already measures, so the survey is the first step toward it.
Each platform opens when twenty people register for it. Joining is free, and nothing is charged before 2027.
Gathering initial interest: your name on the join form, and the first survey open, for every platform.
The industry report, the rubric published with it, and the first benchmark.
Three platforms at twenty, steering committees seated, the benefit corporation filed.
The exam follows the nine domains the survey measures.
